Jacyln Jose's big win as Best Actress at the Festival de Cannes this year made quite a stir among the crtitics' circle. They were quite dubious of the award citing that Jose's role in the movie Ma'Rosa was just a supporting one. The festival's jury were firm on their decision. This year's jury president George Miller said that they made the right choice. Donald Sutherland, one of Hollywood's most notable actors, also said that "the critics are wrong..." Kirsten Dunst was also one of the jury's members apart from other international actors.
Apparently, Jose's fellow nominees Charlize Theron of The Huntsman: Winter's War fame and Marion Cotillard from La Vie En Rose were not at all pleased with the results and were heard commenting on the Filipina's win. Theron said that she "do not understand why Jaclyn won the award...is it because Philippines won Miss Universe last year?" On the other hand, Cotillard was quoted to have said, "I deserve that award more than that Philippino woman!" in a French newspaper, incorrectly spelling the word "Filipino".
